The American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) Instructor Course is designed for experienced healthcare professionals who wish to become certified instructors and teach the NALS Provider Course. This instructor-level training equips participants with the tools, skills, and teaching strategies necessary to effectively teach advanced neonatal life support in a classroom setting.

Course Overview:

Target Audience:
This course is intended for healthcare professionals who are eligible to teach the NALS Provider Course. Eligible candidates include:

  • Certified/licensed paramedics actively working in the field

  • Registered Nurses (RN), Nurse Practitioners (NP), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN), Medical Doctors (MD), Doctors of Osteopathy (DO), and Physician Assistants (PA)

  • Advanced-level clinicians with experience in neonatal care or working in environments such as:

    • Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)

    • Labor & Delivery (L&D)

    • Pediatric Transport and EMS teams

    • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with neonatal or infant care experience

Course Content:

  • Instructor Role and Responsibilities: Learn the responsibilities and expectations of a certified NALS instructor, including course delivery, student engagement, and performance assessments.

  • Teaching Strategies: Develop effective teaching and presentation techniques for delivering content to adult learners, using a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on simulations.

  • Curriculum Mastery: Gain in-depth knowledge of the NALS course curriculum and protocols, including neonatal resuscitation, airway management, cardiovascular support, and fluid/medication administration.

  • Simulation and Scenario-Based Learning: Learn how to effectively run neonatal resuscitation scenarios, manage group dynamics, and evaluate student performance in high-pressure situations.

  • Assessment and Certification: Understand how to assess students' competence during the course, including skills evaluations and written exams. Learn how to issue certificates and ensure compliance with Red Cross standards.
